I’m the guy who will unintentionally halt all conversation with an odd comment, or say something that will put the room on the floor laughing, all the while being genuinely confused why everyone is suddenly laughing. I like katsup on my grilled cheese and the taste of fried bologna with peanut butter sandwiches; riding in an elevator is a magical experience; looking both ways when at the end of a grocery lane to prevent crashes seems obvious; I suspect sometimes that I can talk to dogs; I regularly read books from the 18th century; I’m not Christian; I can sew; all of my toiletries are homemade by me; I don’t like sports; I’m really good at picking up accents; I’m still wondering what I want to be “when I grow up.” I’ve come to know and to understand what it is to be odd. I’m a bit of a character, unlike the image that the 80’s suburban family seemed to be presenting throughout my youth. Though I did my best to emulate the behaviors of my five older siblings, the other boys I met in school and everyone I met, it seems those behaviors didn’t quite take. I still receive an odd look now and then. Until recently, I was still surprised and annoyed by those looks. Then one day, I decided life was more pleasant when I validated that I’m the guy who is not always understood. That was the day I stopped fighting that I’m eccentric and started enjoying the odd life, when it happens. Now I know that it’s my role to be the quirky, eccentric, slightly odd fellow. But now I also know that I’m not the only character out there. So there it is; connect yourself with me and you will connect yourself with the odd character above. You might suspect that it’s too much to handle – that you want to have a life more like Ward and June’s instead of something you invent yourself every day.
